New functions for Type 8650 valve island AirLINE Ex

The Type 8650 valve island AirLINE Ex is a modular, electro-pneumatic automation system for ex zone 1/21. Since 2006, our customers have relied on this valve island to control complex processes and production sequences in potentially explosive environments.

As a result of the re-engineering, Type 8650 offers not only an extended temperature range and a new design, but also reworked basic pneumatic modules. In conjunction with the hot-swap function, the new modules have a higher flow rate, making Type 8650 suitable for a wide range of applications.

In addition, the ATEX/IECEx approvals for the valve island have been updated and correspond to the latest version of the EU standard (IEC 60079 / EU Directive 2014/34/EU).

Greater process reliability thanks to pressure monitoring directly on the valve island.

New functions, such as pressure sensors or pressure switches that can be directly integrated, ensure greater process reliability through status queries and pressure monitoring. If the pressure falls below or exceeds a pre-defined value, certain actions (for example: warning messages) can be triggered.

Greater system safety thanks to new functions

For external, safety-related shutdown, a single Type 6518 valve can be mounted on the supply module. This allows performance level C to be achieved in accordance with the EN 13849 Machinery Directive.

Fully compatible with Siemens SIMATIC ET 200iSP

Type 8650 is the only valve island that is fully compatible with the Siemens IO system SIMATIC ET 200iSP in terms of hardware and software and can be installed within control cabinets in Ex zone 1/21.

The combination of the Siemens I/O system with the Bürkert valve island offers particular advantages in the field of process automation. Given the high channel density offered by the all-in-one system, it is surprisingly compact in size. This provides more space in the control cabinet, facilitating the installation of additional pneumatic and electrical modules.

Simple wiring for flexible system design

In addition, thanks to the direct connection, there is no need to wire the individual valves or the I/O system. This ensures greater flexibility in the system design and an uncomplicated conversion of the existing system.

Diagnostic functions are integrated directly in the process control system

The connection to the Siemens PCS7 process control system is simple. All diagnostic functions are integrated directly into PCS7, where they can be conveniently set.

Diagnostic functions:

  • Switch position display of the valve
  • Switching cycle counter
  • Detection of wire breaks & Short circuits

Thanks to the integrated switching cycle counter, maintenance can be better planned — this allows valves to be replaced before an unplanned failure of your system can occur.
